It’s spring and that means a shift in weather. The clouds are mixing and a windy brew is being poured out on the States.

Jack Bauer on Trial

Jack Bauer, an American patriot breaks all the laws to get the bad guy on 24 (U.S. FOX television series). He does what no one wants to do, wants to see or hear about. But, at the end of the day (and season) he disarms the bomb, saves most of the lives and gets the girl (if she’s not killed.)

Former President George W. Bush, recently admitted in his new book (Decision Points) to authorizing ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ on prisoners in Guantánamo Bay. Following his confession was The Centre for Constitutional Rights’ request for an arrest warrant in Geneva, Switzerland where Bush was meant to give a speech tomorrow. Today, The Guardian (UK) reported that speech was cancelled.

I’m intrigued.

  • Why is this so important?

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Early this morning, Katty Kay (BBC) interviewed Stephen Cook (Council on Foreign Relations, U.S.A.) about America’s response to Egypt.

Right off the bat she punctuates the limited options the U.S. has and inquires further about what they are. Mr. Cook responds in agreement by reminding us that the 1.5 billion USD in (mostly) military aid, given to Egypt, is little leverage in today’s current economic situation.

Then Ms. Kay addresses the damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation that the U.S is in regarding their next move.

“Is there a risk Stephen that pretty much whatever Washington says now is going to make its position almost worse when it comes to Egypt; just by virtue of the fact that America in Egypt has become a ‘negative political force’ I think that’s what you’ve called it, as it is so often in other countries in the Middle East as well?”

He agrees.

How you would respond if you were America?

How does America help Egypt (as it is expected to do) in a ‘politically correct‘ way?

America in Egypt

Today, in Europe, the media is covering, not only, the protests in Egypt, but also what America is going to do about it. I’m intrigued.

  • Why is the American position on Egyptian politics so important?
  • Why does it matter, how the Obama Administration responds to the protests?
